Tape Mixer

Find music videos, create playlists

FAQ

How?

  • When searching a song, the system asks last.fm if it knows any artists or songs by that name. The system then queries YouTube for the most relevant video for each artist and song returned by last.fm
  • Next to the search box is a red button which can disable the step through last.fm. Toggling this button off will only query YouTube.
  • Related songs, top songs, related artists, albums, and upcoming events are all retrieved from last.fm
  • Buy will query the iTunes music store, pictures are retrieved from Flickr, Wikipedia is from …, lyrics are retrieved from lyricwiki.org

Why?

  • Because it is fun
  • It is a good way to discover music
  • Regular music television (broadcast) doesn’t play my music, doesn’t always play music, and has advertising which breaks the flow
  • With this system you can create your own music video channels
  • More obscure music and videos otherwise never aired can be found. Also live concert registrations can pop up
  • Because I’m doing a research project on Free Cooperation

Why are not all clips the right ones?

  • Because for each artist and song the clip with the most relevance is retrieved from youtube. Hover over the song and click ‘other versions’ to try to find a good clip.

“I want to store playlists!”

  • Be patient! A login system is in the making and will allow you to save and share playlists

“I know a cool new feature” :) “This site sucks!”
